SOLSTICE 2009 call for proposals

The 4th SOLSTICE Conference 'It's all in the blend?' has announced its call for papers. The 2009 conference aims to actively explore the 'blend' between innovation, research and development supported and blended online learning. To this end they welcome papers, presentations, demonstrations and posters on a range of themes. Of particular interest to the tele activity area is:
Technologies and learning environments - physical and virtual spaces
For example, the development and deployment of technologies and spaces for delivering appropriate learning and activities is a pertinent issue for learning technologists, practitioners and institutions alike. We particularly invite contributions which discuss the types of technologies and spaces currently in use in higher education.
However, it is worth noting that contributions are also welcomed on issues that do not readily fit into the categories identified in the call, but which can be aligned with the conference title, or that offer opportunity for debate and discourse around work in progress linked to the conference themes.

serious virtual worlds report available

The Serious Virtual Worlds report, authored by Sara de Freitas, was launched at the JISC online conference and is now available for download (Serious Virtual Worlds Report).

The report focuses on virtual worlds for educational uses, and explores the ‘serious’ – as opposed to leisure-based – uses of virtual worlds. The aim of the report is two-fold: to provide a context for learning practitioners and policy makers, aiding with their understanding of virtual worlds and how they can be selected and used in tertiary education; and to highlight how learners, through greater empowerment, may play a different and enriched role in the process of forming collaborative learning experiences and engaging in activities which may support their own learning and meta-reflection.

Welcome to the jisc tele activity area blog

This blog has been set up to share news and information relating to the JISC eLearning Technology Enhanced Environments (TELE) Activity Area. This aim of this activity area is:
to explore and develop effective practice in the delivery of flexible, seamless and personalised services to learners, focussing on the technological interface between the learner and their learning environment

This (not very pretty) diagram is intended to convey the kind of sphere that this activity area attempts to cover - thought it is important to note that the there are four other activity areas (listed below) within the eLearning Programme which TELE works alongside. A more detailed overview of the context and definition of the four key areas shown here can be found linked to on the main JISC TELE page, or by following this link.

The four other activity areas within the eLearning team are:
This is an emerging activity area within the eLearning Programme, and as such the issues it covers may evolve over time.
